New Neighbourhood Park at Blackham Drive
The City of Abbotsford is planning a new neighborhood park in the Immel–McMillan area to serve the needs of local residents. We are seeking input from the community to help inform how we design it.
The new neighborhood park is located at 2899 Blackham Drive, within a single-family neighborhood. It is approximately 1.3 hectares in size, featuring flat lower areas and a large undeveloped hill on the east side of the park that connects into the ridgeline above the Cooper Meadow development.
The park’s unique topography provides an exciting opportunity to design a space that maximizes access to scenic views and nature, while utilizing both the flat and hillside areas to create a fun and engaging environment.

Will there be a pump track?
Shelley asked about 1 month agoHello Shelley,
Thank you for your interest in the New Neighbourhood Park at Blackham Dr.
Due to spatial constraints, we are unfortunately unable to include a full-size pump track in this specific park. However, we are actively exploring the possibility of including a trike track, which is a smaller and beginner-friendly loop designed for younger children. Additionally, we are striving to incorporate the "Top Five" most-voted amenities into our design: Trails & Paths, Trees, a Playground, Seating/Picnic Areas, and a Shade Shelter. This ensures the park aligns with the broader community’s needs.
As for a full-size pump track, our team is currently conducting site studies at other locations to identify the best fit for such a facility. Please stay tuned to the Let’s Talk Abbotsford page for further updates on these projects.
Thank you.

Erica asked about 1 month agoHello Erica,
Thank you for your interest in the New Neighbourhood Park at Blackham Dr.
It sounds like you are referring to the new dog parks off McMillan Rd, located under the power lines. There will be two separate off-leash areas at that site, one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs.
The two off-leash dog parks are currently under construction. We anticipate these areas will be ready for the public to enjoy soon.
We look forward to seeing you and your paw friends there soon.
Thanks.

GSM Builders asked 5 months agoHello GSM Builder,
Thank you for your interest in the New Neighbourhood Park at Blackham Drive. The City is currently in the process of developing the concept design for this park. At the same time, we are undertaking preliminary site preparation work, such as blackberry control, to help prepare the site for future construction activities.
Project updates will be shared on the Let’s Talk Abbotsford project page as they become available. We encourage you to visit the page for the latest information.
Thanks.

Sunnyb asked about 1 year agoHi Sunnyb,
Thank you for your question.
The new park will retain the existing hill—there are no plans for major earthwork in that area. We recognize the unique topography as one of the site's defining features and plan to incorporate it into the park design in a way that creates fun and engaging public spaces.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or suggestions!
Thanks.

Share As Abbotsford considers following the OCP and making cycling and walking "delightful", could this park please include convenient walking/cycling connections to the park other than the street in front of it. A walking connection to "Quarry Ave", to the "McKee extension", to the new road being constructed on the other side of the hill. Please make it easy for people in the community to walk/ roll to and from and through the park. (rather than having to travel "around" to get there). on Facebook Share As Abbotsford considers following the OCP and making cycling and walking "delightful", could this park please include convenient walking/cycling connections to the park other than the street in front of it. Gmckone asked about 1 year agoHi Gmckone,
Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion. We appreciate your interest in creating accessible and enjoyable walking and cycling connections to the new park.
Your feedback aligns well with the City’s goals in the Official Community Plan to make walking and cycling more convenient and delightful.
As part of the planning process, we are already considering a future trail connection between this park and the future McKee Road extension, which will help support active transportation in the area. In addition, we will explore the feasibility of additional trail connections through the design process, taking into account topography, environmental conditions, and budget.
