The City of Abbotsford is planning a new neighborhood park in the Immel–McMillan area to serve the needs of local residents. We are seeking input from the community to help inform how we design it.

The new neighborhood park is located at 2899 Blackham Drive, within a single-family neighborhood. It is approximately 1.3 hectares in size, featuring flat lower areas and a large undeveloped hill on the east side of the park that connects into the ridgeline above the Cooper Meadow development.

The park’s unique topography provides an exciting opportunity to design a space that maximizes access to scenic views and nature, while utilizing both the flat and hillside areas to create a fun and engaging environment.

Will this park be flat? Currently there is a large hill

    Hi Sunnyb,

    Thank you for your question.

The new park will retain the existing hill—there are no plans for major earthwork in that area. We recognize the unique topography as one of the site's defining features and plan to incorporate it into the park design in a way that creates fun and engaging public spaces.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or suggestions!

    Thanks.

A walking connection to "Quarry Ave", to the "McKee extension", to the new road being constructed on the other side of the hill. Please make it easy for people in the community to walk/ roll to and from and through the park. (rather than having to travel "around" to get there). on Facebook Share As Abbotsford considers following the OCP and making cycling and walking "delightful", could this park please include convenient walking/cycling connections to the park other than the street in front of it. Hi Gmckone,

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion. We appreciate your interest in creating accessible and enjoyable walking and cycling connections to the new park.

Your feedback aligns well with the City’s goals in the Official Community Plan to make walking and cycling more convenient and delightful.

As part of the planning process, we are already considering a future trail connection between this park and the future McKee Road extension, which will help support active transportation in the area. In addition, we will explore the feasibility of additional trail connections through the design process, taking into account topography, environmental conditions, and budget.
