The City of Abbotsford is investigating upgrades for the existing unsignalized intersection of Townline Road and Upper Maclure Road due to changes in traffic volumes, transit activity, and concerns regarding pedestrian crossing safety. This project aims to enhance traffic safety amongst all road users through the following intersection modifications:

  • Installation of a full traffic signal at the intersection to allow for safer and more orderly vehicle turning to/from Upper Maclure Road
  • Pedestrian signal heads, countdown timers, and accessible push buttons to promote safe and equitable pedestrian crossings through the intersection,
  • Short raised median segments on the intersection approaches of Townline Road to promote vehicle guidance at the intersection.

  • Share I support changes to this intersection! I live very close and the pedestrian crosswalk has been very helpful. I would like to know how the city will think about when it’s snowy and icy on Townline in regards to any changes to this intersection that require a full stop like a traffic light. Townline is a very dangerous when it’s snowy and icy due to the slope.     Hi Vcornelsenfurse,

    Thank you for your comments and interest in the project. As part of the developing the designs for the intersection, advanced intersection warning signage (similar to the intersection of Townline Road & Southern Drive, which also has slope challenges) is also being reviewed for consideration. We are also reviewing the slopes and drainage at the intersection such that impacts to vehicles going up and down Townline Road due to inclement weather and poor road surface conditions are minimized.
