The City of Abbotsford operates and schedules a large number of public indoor and outdoor spaces which are used for many activities – including sport and recreation, culture, community services, and numerous community and private activities. These facilities and spaces are public assets which are costly to plan, construct, maintain and operate. It is vital that the City use proper standards so that important assets are available equitably, and provide a shared benefit for the entire community.

The key tool to achieve this equality in community usage will be the Allocation Policy. The policy governs how City facilities are scheduled for programs, rentals and general community use. The most important benefit of having a Policy is to provide a consistent framework (clear standards and principles) to guide the equitable allocation of facility use in order to maximize use of all publicly funded facilities and spaces.
