We are keeping the experiential learning alive and testing out new methods of collaboration. Hubbub #9,our end-of-term project showcase, took place in-person at City hall on April 12, 2022. We have also posted all the projects here, online.

CHALLENGE:

How might we design inclusive programing for the “Fraser Valley Food Connection” hub to address food security?

UFV Course: GDD357 Digital Project Management for Creative Practitioners (Instructor: Donna Graffi-Smith)

Manage digital design projects in creative environments using Digital Project Management (DPM) strategies and tools in the field. Navigate complex deliverables: define digital team roles, engage in best practices for client/stakeholder communication, the discovery process, communication, accountability, networking, systems, workflow, and scheduling.

Communing & Educating – Food Security

CHALLENGE:

How might we communicate to and educate the greater community on purpose of the Fraser Valley Food Connections hub?

UFV Course: GDD260 Graphic & Digital Design I (Instructor: Karin Jager )

This course introduces visual communication and the design process. Students gain an understanding of the fundamentals of perception and design thinking. Exercises and projects emphasize conceptual development, composition, and the visual solution.

UFV Course: STATS 370 - Probability and Stochastic Processes (Instructor: David Chu )

Theory of probability and stochastic processes for science and mathematics students. Topics include probability space, conditional probability and independence, continuous and discrete random variables, jointly distributed random variables, expectation, conditional expectation and properties, simulating data from distributions, limit theorems, Markov chains and Poisson processes, and Markov Chains Monte Carlo (MCMC).

Water Sustainability

CHALLENGE:
What can the City, residents, businesses and industries do to shift the balance towards a sustainable water future?

UFV Course: GEOG/CMNS 257 Environment: Science and Communications (Dr. Carin Bondar, Paul Fontaine)

Environmental science and communications, while different fields, are both essential for addressing contemporary environmental problems. This course, team-taught by faculty in Geography and Communications, introduces the student to the methods of scientific inquiry, and the principles of effective communication in environmental science. Application of the scientific method to case studies of environmental issues will highlight challenges and possible solutions at local, regional, and national scales, while exploring the interface between science, politics, and popular perceptions. Specific consideration will be given to developing strategies for communicating with various audiences, including stakeholder groups, other scientists, policy makers, and the general public. A field trip outside of class time may be required. Please refer to the Department of Geography website for scheduling information.
