Food Security in Abbotsford
CHALLENGE
To contribute to a food security strategy for Abbotsford by gathering relevant examples and analyzing their potential fit for our region, especially in the context of agriculture and its importance to our local economy.
What does food security have to do with economic development?
In fall 2021, Nathan Burns, 4th Year Economics Student at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) conducted a practicum on food security with the City of Abbotsford.
He spoke to members of the community, including agriculture experts and food justice advocates, as well as City staff, and combed online resources to create a shortlist of relevant examples from around BC.

CityStudio is an innovation and experimentation hub for the City of Abbotsford (CoA) in collaboration with the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) & Rick Hansen Secondary School.
These are initiatives that have been inspired or grew out of our formal CityStudio Program. These initiatives are unique, follow their own timelines and paths and are supported by a variety of community partners.
