Old Yale Road Improvements
The City of Abbotsford is pursuing improvements to the Old Yale Road corridor between McMillan Road and Eagle Mountain Drive. Old Yale Road is an important east-west corridor with connections to Eagle Mountain, Lower Sumas Mountain, and Whatcom areas. In addition, Old Yale Road has been identified in the City's 2018 Master Transportation and Transit Plan for improvements to the pedestrian and cycling networks.
The corridor improvements will provide the following key benefits to the community:
- A multi-use pathway between McMillan Road and Eagle Mountain Drive providing connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists
- Actuated pedestrian crosswalk providing crossing opportunity at Eagle Mountain Drive
- Improved westbound bus stop and transit amenities at St.Moritz Way

Add proper separated bike lanes, not a shared pathway
Shared-pathways do not work well where there are many pedestrians or cyclists. They are not best practices and does not really align with OCP goals. Improved sidewalks where needed, safe pedestrian crossings, and separated bike lanes would meet these objectives better. Projects such as this, for example the Spirit Trail in North Vancouver wind up with many conflicts between pedestrians & cyclists and the city responds by making them completely impractical for cycling, pushing cyclists back on the road. After pedestrians complained of conflicts because of the Spirit Trail design, bollards were placed all over the trail making it basically unusable for cycling as a mode of transportation.

Slow The Traffic to 30km/h
Too many noisy and fast vehicles. Unsafe for children and excessive noise pollution disrupting a quiet neighbourhood. 30km/h max and traffic calming measures from MacMillan to Marshall (or even better DeLair)

Consider starting this upgrade with lights & crosswalk at Old Yale and Guilford Drive to give foot traffic a save way to cross to the bus .

An on demand traffic light at the intersection of St Moritz and Old Yale. Visibility is limited here, traffic flies along Old Yale!
