Project Update: On July 24, 2023, Council adopted the new Sign Bylaw, 2023. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and helped create the new bylaw!

The Sign Bylaw Update was a project to make the City's Sign Bylaw more user-friendly and better aligned with the City's Official Community Plan (OCP), with the goal of encouraging high quality signage and streamlining the sign approval process.

City staff conducted a 3-stage planning process to update the Sign Bylaw, including a comprehensive review of the City's previous Sign Bylaw and application process, best practice research from other municipalities, and engagement with Council committees, local sign companies, the business community, and the residents of Abbotsford.

Council adopted the new Sign Bylaw, 2023 (Bylaw No. 3429-2023) on July 24, 2023, replacing the City's previous Sign Bylaw from 2001. The updated Sign Bylaw is more contemporary, user-friendly, and aligned with the OCP, resulting in better signage, more signage options and a streamlined approval process.
