The City of Abbotsford is constructing new permanent washrooms in Spud Murphy Park, which will replace the portables installed annually during peak park use. The new washrooms will be located on the east side of the park, close to the park entrance on the corner of Hillcrest Avenue and James Street to allow easy access from accessible pathways and clear sightlines to the washrooms. The new washrooms will complement the existing park amenities and will provide a safer, cleaner and more accessible alternative for park users year-round.

The washrooms will be pre‐engineered sturdy structures, designed to mitigate or deter most common problems experienced with public toilets, such as uncleanliness, vandalism and improper uses. The sleek and modern design of the units discourage crime with graffiti‐proof wall panels and open grating at the top and bottom. Washrooms will be locked during evening hours.

The park will remain open to the public during the construction phase and the new washrooms are anticipated to be open to the public in late Summer or early Winter, 2025.

  • Share I missed the survey window (sorry!), but in case anyone reads this, I live just feet from Spud Murphy park and want to provide some feedback. The washroom project is AWESOME; thank you to whoever spearheaded this initiative! My family would love to see more light posts in the park as well (there are many women and elders who walk the park at all times of day, and the park can get dark really quickly), and a small fenced area where dogs can play off-leash. on Facebook Share I missed the survey window (sorry!), but in case anyone reads this, I live just feet from Spud Murphy park and want to provide some feedback. Hello,

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback — we're thrilled to hear that you and your family are enjoying the new washroom at Spud Murphy Park!

Suggestions like additional lighting and a fenced off-leash area for dogs are very valuable and will be taken into consideration during our internal discussions. As part of our upcoming Off-Leash Dog Strategy planned for 2026, we’ll be exploring suitable locations across the city, and your input helps guide those decisions.

Just a quick reminder: parks in the City of Abbotsford are open from dawn to dusk, and ensuring the safety and comfort of all park users remains one of our top priorities.

    Thanks again for your engagement!

    Best regards,
