WATER EFFICIENCY PLAN UPDATE

The AMWSC has updated the Water Efficiency Plan to meet our population growth trends, reflect our community’s current water use and meet water reduction targets. This new Water Efficiency Plan includes an evaluation of the AMWSC's current water efficiency program, case studies of best conservation practices and a quantitative analysis of our current water use trends. The 2021 Plan is one that will meet the future water needs of both communities; improve on the current plan by placing strong emphasis on helping residents becoming more efficient, work with businesses and institutions and improve water utility management.

BACKGROUND

In 2013, the Abbotsford Mission Water & Sewer Commission (AMWSC) endorsed a Water Efficiency Plan (WEP) for the region. The WEP set out demand reduction targets for water use and outlined our current water conservation measures.

In 2018, the Joint Water Master Plan was finalized, as part of the City of Abbotsford’s Plan for 200K master planning process. The 2018 Joint Water Master Plan identified the need to update the 2013 Water Efficiency Plan to refine water conservation programs and meet the proposed demand reductions of 10% overall (to at least 13 megaliters per day), by 2041.
