Why do we need a new water supply source?

The water system is nearing capacity in the next 7-10 years (subject to growth) and both the City of Abbotsford and the District of Mission have updated their Official Community Plans and expect to see growth.

    What is a Collector Well?

A collector well is made up of horizontal pipes, designed to capture groundwater flows from the underground aquifer near the river. Groundwater undergoes a natural filtering process through the soil, followed by water quality improvements to create high quality potable water for customers in both communities.

Why is this the preferred option?

This option provides a centralized facility that is incrementally scalable and provides the lowest capital expenditure. It is a phasable, affordable, sustainable and flexible solution.
