Community Trail User Survey
The City of Abbotsford has an extensive network of trails, including nature trails, recreational and multi-use paths that span across the city, providing recreational opportunities, connection with nature and community. With the city’s growing population and shifting demographics comes greater demand for expanded and upgraded trail infrastructure and a desire for new and different recreational activities.
The City of Abbotsford will be initiating trail planning strategies this year, and to ensure we are taking an informed and balanced approach to the planning process, we are conducting a preliminary city-wide survey to better understand which trails are most popular, how residents use the trail network and how they would like to see it improved or expanded in the future.
We Want to Hear From You!
The feedback from this survey, along with demographic research, benchmarking, and other data inputs will provide early insights into community values and priorities which will ensure community needs are reflected in the planning process.

Share Are there usually security guards on these trails? There was a suspicious man dressed in what looked like a cheap security guard costume at Gardner Park and my friend had to hide and lose him following her. This is concerning in light of recently posted warnings about predators in the area at multiple park locations. I have been inappropriately followed and questioned by men even with another person with me in broad daylight at Ellwood Park. I wish I could walk alone comfortably even at 5pm without needing to feel on alert. The trails are beautiful, but are there normally security guards? And if not, how can we make trails safer for residents (particularly women)? on Facebook Share Are there usually security guards on these trails? WillaJoy asked 7 days agoThank you for reaching out and for sharing your experience which is deeply unsettling. To clarify, the City does not activley employ security guards to patrol our parks and trails. If you ever feel unsafe or encounter suspicious behavior again, we urge you to call 911 immediately so that police can respond and investigate.
We will explore ideas on how to make our trails safer for all users through upcoming trail planning initiatives, so your perspective is important to us. We welcome any ideas or feedback you may have to help shape future improvements. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch again to share ideas on how we can improve.

Canuck23 asked 12 days agoThank you for your question. The absence of a convenient and safe pedestrian crossing at Valley Road has been a long-standing issue, and the need for it is well understood. While the pedestrian connection across Hwy 11 is not currently part of an active work plan, it remains a recognized priority. That said, the project is far from straightforward and involves multiple layers of provincial approvals. We appreciate the community's continued interest and patience, and we remain committed to finding a viable path forward.

Share Is there a plan to develop a network of routes for walking, cycling, etc to allow people to access all areas of Abbotsford on paths that are separated from motor vehicles. I would use that network more and reduce my vehicle usage. This could also be linked to neighbouring communities to allow for more eco-friendly ways of moving around. on Facebook Share Is there a plan to develop a network of routes for walking, cycling, etc to allow people to access all areas of Abbotsford on paths that are separated from motor vehicles. padowney asked 12 days agoGreat question. Through this survey, we hope to better understand how residents use the trail network and how they would like to see it improved or expanded in the future. Understanding community priorities and preferences will help us develop a strategic approach for new trail development and existing trail improvements.
