Fraser Highway Improvements Phase 2
Fraser Highway connects the City of Abbotsford to the Township of Langley and beyond. In recent years, the traffic volumes along Fraser Highway has risen to over 30,000 vehicles per day. This project will help reduce traffic congestion and enhance walkability along Fraser Highway between Mt. Lehman Road and Station Road. It also aligns with the City's strategic goal to improve transportation options throughout the city. Having completed Phase 1 of this project in 2023, the city is currently advancing to Phase 2.
The project is currently in PHASE 2 of 3 phases of improvements planned for Fraser Highway.
Phase 2 Improvements:
- Upgrading traffic signals.
- Adopting smart signal technology for better traffic management.
- Improving Intersection Level of Service by adding Northbound/Southbound left turn lanes to Bradner Road and Ross Road
- Completing a five-lane cross-section from Station Road to Lefeuvre Road, with a pedestrian activated mid-block crosswalk to support Engineer Park, currently under construction.
- Addition of multi-use pathways both sides of Fraser Highway to connect the urban community.

Nick asked 18 days agoAs part of the Fraser Highway Phase 2 project, the City is planning a number of improvements to support alternative transportation modes. The design includes multi-use pathways on both sides of the corridor to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians, enhanced transit stops, and intersection upgrades to support traffic flow and transit efficiency. The widening to a five-lane cross-section between Station and Lefeuvre Roads is also being planned with long-term flexibility in mind. While dedicated HOV or transit-only lanes are not being added in this phase, the corridor is being designed to support future transit upgrades and the City is considering long-range possibilities including future Sky Train.
We are actively working to ensure this corridor can adapt to the evolving transportation needs of our growing community.

Share I attended meeting exactly the same a few years ago - interesting I’ve been living on Fraser Hwy for 23 years- there have been many promises made about upgrading Fraser Highway. Always these promises are made during an election year!Lots of studies, but still we are living with much congestion Ross Road to Mount Lehman is plugged every morning and at night not to mention the weekends interesting that nothing ever gets done in that section hopefully our tax dollars will provide some sort of reprieve soon. Seems like our city has lost its way with promises- on Facebook Share I attended meeting exactly the same a few years ago - interesting I’ve been living on Fraser Hwy for 23 years- there have been many promises made about upgrading Fraser Highway. Grace asked 18 days agoThank you for sharing your experience and concerns.
We understand the frustration residents have felt with delays and congestion along Fraser Highway. This is partly attributable to driver behavior and the mix between light vehicles and heavy trucks, following distances, and other drivers yielding to let vehicles onto the Fraser Highway west of Ross Road. The city has been working in phases since 2017 to upgrade this corridor, and the current Phase 2 project is a concrete step forward toward delivering long-planned improvements. This phase includes widening the road to five lanes between Station and Lefeuvre, adding turning lanes at Ross and Bradner, upgrading signals, and improving pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. Detailed design is now underway, with construction targeted for early 2026. While it has taken time, we are committed to moving from studies to action and delivering meaningful improvements that address traffic congestion and community needs.
Your continued input is valued as we work toward that goal.

Share can we ensure that we're implementing roundabouts where possible? less traffic lights is less intersections which is less chances for accidents and better flow, also uses less energy and reduces stop and go and idling traffic. on Facebook Share can we ensure that we're implementing roundabouts where possible? less traffic lights is less intersections which is less chances for accidents and better flow, also uses less energy and reduces stop and go and idling traffic. on Twitter Share can we ensure that we're implementing roundabouts where possible? less traffic lights is less intersections which is less chances for accidents and better flow, also uses less energy and reduces stop and go and idling traffic. on Linkedin Email can we ensure that we're implementing roundabouts where possible? less traffic lights is less intersections which is less chances for accidents and better flow, also uses less energy and reduces stop and go and idling traffic. link

Nick asked 19 days agoThank you for your thoughtful comment and suggestion.
The current design for Fraser Highway Phase 2 does not include any roundabouts. While roundabouts offer benefits such as improved safety, reduced idling, and better traffic flow under low volume conditions, the design team has prioritized signal optimization and turning lanes to address intersection performance. These decisions were based on traffic modelling, heavy truck volumes and existing land constraints, and operational requirements.
We appreciate your engagement and interest in sustainable and safe transportation solutions.
