Consultation has concluded

The City of Abbotsford is constructing new permanent washrooms in Jubilee Park, which will replace the seasonal portables installed annually during peak park use. The new washrooms will be located on the east side of the park and north of the existing pickleball courts with accessible pathway connections. The new washrooms will complement the existing park amenities and will provide a safer, cleaner and more accessible alternative for park users year round.

The washrooms will be pre-engineered sturdy structures, designed to mitigate or deter most common problems experienced with public toilets, such as dirtiness, vandalism and improper uses. The sleek and modern design of the units discourage crime with graffiti-proof wall panels and open grating at the top and bottom and can be locked during evening hours.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback on this project! The park will remain open to the public during the construction phase and the new washrooms are anticipated to be open to the public in Spring 2024.

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in the park’s washroom project. The City aims to provide safe, clean and accessible hygienic facilities for all park visitors.  The washroom models proposed for this park will include hand wash stations that are external to each unit, allowing convenient use regardless of whether the unit is occupied.  You can also visit letstalkabbotsford.ca/jubilee-park-washrooms and review the information board for more details about the washroom features.

Thank you for your question. The City's parks are meant to serve all residents and visitors to Abbotsford, including those who are experiencing homelessness. We recognize the importance of providing access to basic amenities such as washrooms, and the proposed new permanent washrooms in Jubilee Park will improve the convenience of publicly accessible hygienic facilities in the Historic Downtown area.

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand the importance of providing comprehensive information to the community. Please visit letstalkabbotsford.ca/jubilee-park-washrooms and review the information board for more details about the washroom features.

During the initial planning stages for this project, a key consideration was selecting a well-designed washroom that would mitigate or deter most common challenges experienced with public toilets, such as vandalism and other undesirable behavior. We compared several prefabricated options available in North America, collected data from our operations staff and consulted with other municipalities in the lower mainland.  After careful consideration, we decided that the Portland Loo® model was the best unit to meet the needs of Jubilee Park.

  • Share As the co-manager of the Abbotsford Farm and Country Market (Susan Trithardt) we use Jubilee Park 26 Saturdays a year (May to October). The proposed location of the toilets will obstruct the vendor set-up along the walk path substantially. Could the toilets be located closer to the pickleball fencing so as to allow more turning space for vehicles traveling from the path to the exit ramp? The ramp is currently too narrow and many vehicles have the passenger tires fall of the concrete into the dug-out flower beds and damage both their vehicle and the concrete curb. on Facebook Share As the co-manager of the Abbotsford Farm and Country Market (Susan Trithardt) we use Jubilee Park 26 Saturdays a year (May to October). We appreciate your feedback on the proposed washroom facility and its location.  At this stage, we are still in the process of planning and evaluating the feasibility of the proposed location. We will share your feedback with the site design engineer as we progress further into the design phase and ensure that there is enough flexible space for the farmer's market and other events that may take place throughout the year.
