The purpose of the Transportation Master Plan is to guide how people and goods move around Abbotsford over the next 25 years, whether by bike, bus, foot/mobility device, or by car. The Plan will identify transportation improvements needed to support a growing population of 250,000, align with the vision and goals of the updated Official Community Plan, set priorities for future investments, and help ensure the transportation network remains safe, accessible and efficient.

The Master Plan will include:

  • A transportation vision and measurable targets for the next 25 years
  • Active transportation networks (for walking and cycling)
  • Updated road networks and truck routes
  • A data driven road safety strategy
  • A list of infrastructure projects for the short-, medium-, and long-term

Through this update, the City will also:

  • Coordinate transportation initiatives with regional partners and plans (such as the BC Transit Future Action Plan, the Highway 1 Program, etc.)
  • Consider the mobility needs of seniors, people with disabilities, low-income households, and other equity-deserving groups in Abbotsford

What’s Happening Next:

Throughout 2026 and 2027, the City will be gathering feedback to inform updates to its existing Master Plans. This work will ensure that long-term planning aligns with the priorities outlined in the updated OCP, Council’s Strategic Plan and community input, creating a cohesive and consistent roadmap for Abbotsford toward 2050.

Engagement Opportunities - We want to hear from you!

Thank you to everyone who visited one of our pop-up events in May 2026 to learn more about the Transportation Master Plan and for sharing feedback on the key issues and opportunities that will help shape the future direction of the plan.

Additional engagement opportunities will be available in early 2027.

Plan for 2050 is about planning ahead, working together, and creating a city that continues to be a great place to live, work, and grow, now and for generations to come.
